Dear Darius, I hope this is the right place to post a story, a true story at that.Back in the summer of 1986 my husband and I and my three children (I think they were about 9,11,12 yrs of age at the time.) Decided to go up hiking up to a lake called,"Lost Lake", on Chuckanut Mountain here in Whatcom County. So we arrived at a old logging road half way to this,"Lost Lake", got out and started to hike. I was raised around the Northwest Cascade Mountains and I am a experienced hiker. Anyways, It was kind of late in the day really and should have not went as far into the mountain as we did but I knew what to do if it got to late and dark. Anyone that is raised in the Pacific Northwest knows not to hike after dark, you stay put till morning light. I looked at my husband that was in front of us on the trail and it is getting pretty dark and I ask him to stop we needed a rest. We talked to each other in code as not to alert the kids that we must stay the night without scareing them. So I made it a game like this was going to be the best time...Little did I know what would happen later that night. We were at Latitude 48.6786 N, Longitude 122.4505 W Altitude was 1585 ft. So we told the children since it was too dark we would stay the night and it was the perfect opportunity to brush up on our survival skills. My sons were excited and happy but my daughter the youngest was starting to freak out a bit, So we got her clamed down and I instructed the boys and my husband to find wood for our fire and to help their father to set up a lean to and to make sure it would not drip if it rained. They stayed busy but my daughter kept telling me she was scared so I held her to calm her. What I did not tell the children was my husband had a gun on his person because you never know when you come upon a grizzly or black bear that considers you a tasty treat. The fire was lit, and we had enough wood till morning and snacks and water, flashlights and warm coats and one of the best lean to ever built with a floor of moss and ever green bows and it was close to fire and I warmed rocks to put under moss as to keep the children warm. So I had them lay down and we all told funny stories till I noticed or should I say heard something coming from the side of me in the dark just outside the firelight, it was not a bear. Bears grunt and they paw the ground, it was not an elk nor a deer or a cougar or racoon, It stopped it's movement and the kids did not hear it at first, so I looked over to my husband and ask if heard that he shook his head yes. I grabbed a stout stick and stood in front of my children and looked into it's direction where I heard it breath. I told the boys to hold their sister close and they were to stay in the lean to. My husbad pulled out his gun (thank God his had extra clips) and this thing was heavy by the sound of the foot steps but it was smart enough to stay out of the light and walked around us as if it was stalking us. I was never so scared in my whole life but I was not going to let anything happen to my children and I would have done what I had to do to protect them. It walked around and around and right when I raised the flash light it took off going west and at a fast pace and you could hear it running till you could not hear it any more. I got in the lean to with the children and assured them it was only a racoon that was looking for food. My children looked at me and said that was not a racoon mom. We all did not sleep that night but in the morning left to go to the truck and on the way home we were silent and tired and was thinking what happened the night before. To this day (I just looked down at my arm and it has goosebumps) I do not know what it was, but this much I do know it was not an animal. It had inteligence and it walked completly around just outside the fire light... I will never forget that as long as I live. My children that are grown now still talk about it and none of us will ever go back up onto that mountain ever again...Anyone have a true spooky story to tell?

Well said Darius , albeit too polite . Perhaps I should fuse my blog - Politics & Scoundrels / International affairs with yours .

Must admit I had to read it all - a bit compelling .
